Caidi Gully Landslide Treatment for Wanzhou-Yunyang Highway

Wanzhou-Yunyang Highway in Chongqing is an important part of G42 Shanghai-Chengdu Expressway. It is located in the Three Gorges Reservoir Area, northeast of Chongqing, with steep terrain and complex geological conditions. During its construction, landslides and high slope diseases often occurred along the route, of which the landslide of Caidi Gully is a typical case.

The landslide of Caidi Gully, located in Gaoliang Town of Wanzhou District of Chongqing, is an accumulation landslide, from the middle-rear part of which the highway passed in the form of a bridge. Since the construction period of highway is short and no space is available for beam fabricating on this line (Miaoliang Tunnel occupies the large-mileage section while Gaoliang Extra-large Bridge occupies the small-mileage section), NWRI has made a series of treatments for the landslide using anti-slide pile with prestressed anchor-cable, and drainage technique, etc. on the basis of detailed geological survey, and replaced some bridge sections with subgrade sections according to the requirements of owner and construction unit, of which the subgrade is protected by anti-slide pile with anchor-cable.

After the operation in 2008, no deformation occurred on this highway, showing that the goal of landslide treatment is achieved. In addition, replacing some bridge sections with subgrade sections not only saves the construction cost, but also solves the problem of beam fabricating.
