Yichang-Wanzhou Railway

Yichang-Wanzhou railway is one of the main backbones of China railway network of eight vertical and eight horizontal lines and is an important part of Shanghai-Wuhan-Chengdu passenger dedicated line and also the ties connecting with eastern, central and western China. It starts from Huayan in Yichang, runs westward via Yidu, Changyang, Badong, Jianshi, Enshi, lichuan and goes to Wanzhou of Chongqing, with a total length of 380 kilometers. This railway line was constructed as single track railway line reserved for construction of second track and designed as electrified  one, with a total cost of about RMB 16.7 billion Yuan. Yichang-Wanzhou railway covers 114 tunnels with a total length of 220 km, 183 bridges with a total length of 56 km, the total length of bridges and tunnels account for more than 71% of the main line. So far, Yichang-Wanzhou railway possesses the largest proportion of bridges and tunnels in domestic railways. After the completion of these bridges and tunnels, it will create  many great records in China and even around the world in the history of railway construction, therefore, Yichang-Wanzhou railway is known as the museum of bridge and tunnel . Currently, it is the most difficult and complex mountain railway in domestic existing or newly-built railways in terms of topography, geological complexity, hard works, risk degree of water and mud burst, scale and engineering difficulty, etc.. Yichang-Wanzhou railway runs through high mountains and steep cliff and deep valleys with complicated terrain, poor geological conditions, and high engineering risks.

CRAC was responsible for tunnel monitoring and testing, advanced geological prediction of this railway.
